Hampshire County WV Relocation Package
Hampshire County, WV is the oldest county in the
state of West Virginia, and is located on along the
Eastern panhandle of West Virginia near the Potomac
Highland region.
Economy
Historically, Hampshire County’s economy was based
on agriculture and farming, and still to this day,
much of Hampshire’s economy revolves around the
agricultural industry. Hampshire County WV continues to
experience growth, and should continue to grow due
to it’s location near more urban areas.
Schools
There are several primary schools, two middle
schools and one high school in the Hampshire County
school district. While it is a small district, the
Hampshire County WV schools are wonderful schools with
great teachers. Teachers, Administrators and parents
come together in Hampshire County to ensure the
academic success of their students.
Hospitals
The Hampshire Memorial Hospital in Romney, provides
emergency services and health care to the Hampshire
county area.
Communities
The towns of Romney and Capon Springs are in
Hampshire County. Hampshire County is very close to
Frederick and Winchester, Virginia.
Activities
There is so much natural beauty in Hampshire County,
you will want to check out all the wonderful places
that nature created. Places like Ice Mountain, a
nature preserve that is also known as “Nature’s
Icebox” because ice can be found on most of the
rocks and trees year round. Due to the weather
conditions, plants and flora that are normally only
found in places like Quebec and the Yukon are found
on Ice Mountain. Guided tours are given on a
scheduled basis, and special care should be given to
all the wildlife and plants while visiting the
preserve.
Also be sure to check out “the trough”, which was
created with the South Branch River was squeezed
into a narrow canyon. The trough is a popular place
to spot bald eagles and other wildlife. You can even
take a 3 hour train ride on the Potomac Eagle
through the trough and see the crystal clear waters
of the South Branch River and the beautiful cliffs
of the canyons.
In addition to all the beautiful places to visit,
Hampshire County WV also has many opportunities for
outdoor exploration. Visit Hampshire Park, or the
Nathaniel Mountain Hunting and Fishing park. You can
even go horseback riding at one of the many stables
in the area. Guided tours are available.
